Swastika Meaning And History

Swastika is a Sanskrit that means all is well, good fortune, luck and well being.  It is an ancient cosmic or religious symbol formed by a Greek cross with the ends of the arms bent at right angles in both clockwise or a counterclockwise direction. If it turns to clockwise direction it is being good, if counterclockwise it is being destructive. The nazism has imbued this symbol with evil associations, no matter which direction it turns. It is used widely throughout the world as a symbol of prosperity and good fortune. In India, it continues to be the most common symbol of Hindus and Jains, as well as for Buddhists, for whom it symbolizes the Buddhas footprints. It was even used as a decoration in the synagogues of ancient Israel.  The counterclockwise swastika was adopted as the symbol of the Nazi Party at its founding in 1919 – 20. The idea of taking on the swastika as the symbol of the Nazis came from Adolf Hitler himself. Swastika was used on the flag, badge, and armband of Nazi Germany. Because of its usage in Nazi Germany the symbol of swastika has become stigmatized in the Western world.

Variations of this symbol are used as a trademark logo on vehicles produced by the Chrysler, and Harley Davidson.

Cherub (Cherubim)

Cherubim is a celestial winged being with human, animal, or birdlike characteristics. This winged creatures have four faces, those of a man, a lion, an ox, and an eagle. They are included among the angels, and in the Hebrew scriptures they are described as the throne bearers of God. Cherubim were probably thought of in the ancient Middle East as composite creatures like the winged creatures of Assyria. The late Christian art often represented them as a winged child or winged head of a child. They are symbolizing dignity, glory, and honor. With the seraphim they are said to be in the very presence of God. The color surrounding them is traditionally blue. The color blue is associated with the Cherubim, as the color red is with the Seraphim.

Gorgon

The Gorgon In Greek mythology was a terrifying female creature with sharp fangs who was a protective deity from early religious concepts. Her power was so strong that anyone attempting to look upon her would be turned to stone, therefore such images were put upon items from temples to wine kraters for protection. The Gorgon wore a belt of serpents that intertwined as a clasp, confronting each other. The term commonly refers to any of three sisters: Medusa, Stheno and Euryale, who had hair of living snakes, and a horrifying gaze that turned those who beheld it to stone. Only Medusa was mortal, the other two are immortal. Medusa was slain by the mythical hero Perseus.
