Green Man

The Celtic symbol also known as Foliate Head or Jack-of-the-Green is a mysterious figure depicted mainly in medieval Europe, believed to represent an ancient vegetation deity. A Green Man is a sculpture, drawing, or other representation of a face surrounded by or made from leaves. Green Man symbolises irrepressible life, renewal and rebirth, the eternal cycle of life, death and regeneration. The combination of human head with leaves and vegetation, it is a symbol of the union of mankind with nature.The green man motif has many variations,it is often used was used to decorate churches. It is not a strictly European symbol, similar images appear in Asian, Indian, and Arabic architecture and art also. Whatever his origin, the Green Man is now an unmistakable emblem of the Neopagan religious movement. In Wicca, the Green Man has often been used as a representation of the Horned Gceod.
